Finally made it to Jitlada, and boy was it worth the wait!
Fair warning for anyone, Southern Thai food is inherently spicy, so be prepared for it, and ask clearly if they can make it milder for you. The jungle curry is NO joke.
Crying Tiger, and the Crab Fried Rice are must try!
As Guy F. says in the poster affixed to the first window, this place is the real deal!
There is a certain depth of flavor that you can only experience in places that have a long and inspired history to complement an equally rich and diverse culture.
Every single dish I've had here gave me a new culinary experience that was equal parts unique and soul-warming.
It's one of the few places in LA where I'd say you can order anything and be happy.
The water spinach (cress) in curry as well as the jitlada comelette were absolutely insane and I couldn't stop eating and tasting new parts of the latter.
All around, perfect spice levels as well. That flavorful heat that makes you sweat a tad, but not need to fan off your mouth and not enjoy the next bite.
Service is fantastic and well tended to. It has a bit of a classic Thai place feel where it doesn't take itself too seriously and the focus is on the food, but the wait staff is attentive in a non stuff way. Perfect. Also the interior is dope and plenty of things to tend to as conversation starters. The tables are a bit close together and arranged for maximum capacity so there's a little bit of overhearing and being close to others, but to be honest it really feels like that's what helps me it a genuine Thai dining experience. 10/10
If you're coming for the heat, ask the server which part of the menu to order from! Otherwise, don’t freak out the spice won’t git you. This is an incredible (for others maybe overwhelming) menu with dishes we had never seen anywhere else. We made sure to try both the classics and things we hadn’t tried before. The unfamiliar dishes were the stars! Our server informed us there would be a wait for food because there was only one cook but we didn't wait long for our food and it all kind of came out relatively quickly and at once. The pad thai and the lemongrass chicken didn't quite deliver, might be because of hurried dishwashing in the back that affected the experience of the dish. We absolutely loved the crab curry, there was SO much crab on those claws! The morning glory noodles were like an elevated pad see ew with perfect texture and great flavor. The papaya salad was one of the best I’ve ever had. We went on a Wednesday night and the way it was about 20 minutes, you sign up on a list in person and they call your name.
